wash & wear

im really liking these post-washed & distressed canvas and leather bags from the recently concluded
Burberry Prorsum S/S2010 Menswear show:

particularly the one on the upper left. the khaki tone just makes the tan leather trim stand out more. tough, carefree and utilitarian, they are pretty much in keeping withe the company's military heritage. down to the nearly faded screen printed branding.

these are something im definitely looking forward to next year.

some impressions may last

there are a handful of movies that i truly love. those which i deem "life changing", not always in a literal sense but it sure has left its mark in me in some ways. so special to me that i try not to watch it as often as i would like so as to avoid it being too familiar.

its been four years since i first saw this movie but tonight was a good night to rediscover "The Squid & the Whale".

set in Brooklyn in 1986, it is about a family of writers going through the typical processes of divorce and redefinition. the main theme focuses how parents impress their own selves onto their still formative offspring, and on how things unsaid and unseen have a way of affecting each and everyone in such a major way. but towards the end each go through a their own process of detachment, to forming their own identities separate and independent from what used to be their only basis.

here's the official trailer:

directed by Noah Baumbach, who co-wrote "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou" with Wes Anderson, who in turn acted as this movie's producer. starring the always reliable Laura Linney and a career-peak performance by Jeff Daniels, it is a serious must-see for those who appreciate movies that may be low on flash, but remain heartfelt, compassionate and real. this tiny cinematic gem is guaranteed to stay with you for quite a while. in my case, for ever.

new LV PreFall'09 Utah bags

as reported in this blog
back in October 2008*, Louis Vuitton will be introducing a new Utah Leather colour. i was initially told the colour would be called petrol and would have a blueish-grey shade. but it is now confirmed that it is actually more like a charcoal grey called basalte. first seen on the S/S 2009 runway, a collection of three bags have just debuted in the LV website as part of their Men's PreFall 2009. here they are:

Hopi

i quite like this one in particular.

Yurok

the shape is very similar to the
Naxos Messenger from the current S/S'09 collection.

Mohave

all three will will come in both basalte and the original café colours. and as per usual, they are all named after Native American tribes in line with the uniquely hand-grained leather collection's original pioneering spirit.

although blue Utah would still have been a much more exciting colour for me, im still quite eager to see these in person.
